The Firm, now known as Beecher, Field, Walker, Morris, Hoffman & Johnson, P.C., was originally formed in 1918 by William L. Beecher and E.H. McCoy and was known as McCoy and Beecher.

W. Louis Beecher, who remains as the Senior Partner of the Firm arrived in Waterloo, Iowa in 1947, to practice with his uncle, William L. Beecher and the Firm name was then changed to Beecher & Beecher. Since that time, many attorneys have become associated with the Firm. Four attorneys have moved on to judgeship positions.
